What the 8th Pay Commission is
The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025. It will recommend new pay, allowances and pensions for central government employees and pensioners. It has 18 months to report, which puts its report around May 2027.
The Government has not decided when the new pay starts. This page assumes 1 January 2026, because a Government note said the effect would "normally be expected from 01.01.2026". That is an assumption, not an announcement.
What the fitment factor does
The fitment factor is the number your basic pay is multiplied by to fix your pay in the new pay matrix. The 7th CPC used 2.57. Nobody knows the 8th CPC figure yet, so the slider runs from 1.8 to 4, and the chips show figures that have been publicly discussed.

Why DA restarting matters
Dearness allowance is 60% of basic pay today. When a new commission applies, DA is expected to restart from zero because it is folded into the new basic pay, as it was in 2016. So a factor of 2.57 is not a 157% rise. Compared with basic pay plus 60% DA, it is about 60.6%.
